Applause at a managers’ meeting?

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Nothing more satisfying at work than demoing your big project to a room of 17 managers and a director, and then receiving an unexpected round of applause.

Circuit City > Best Buy

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

PSA: I have found the employees of Best Buy, on average, to be some of the worst anywhere. This past week, I’ve visited two Best Buys and confirmed that it was not just the first location’s problem. So, when I had to get my new car radio installed (woot!), I went to Circuit City. They were much more helpful, knowledgable, and easy to get along with. Circuit City’s staff had all the answers to my questions, and even started a friendly conversation with me while I was waiting for the car guys to finish and watching Napoleon Dynamite.

Dear Florida and all residents of Florida,

I miss you. I’ll be back soon.

Also, please enjoy a Slurpee and think of me. Houston still does not have 7-11s, I had to go to Austin, TX to get my drink on.

Here is a photo to:
- illustrate the above mention of Slurpees in Austin, TX
- show you what Rachel (the best TX souvenir ever) looks like
- remind you what I look like, in case you’ve forgotten over the past 6 or 7 months

Love,
-Bob

I tried to rationalize the war.

Friday, June 24th, 2005

I just tried to rationalize the war by saying “maybe… hmm… maybe all the people that have been sent to war are leaving lots of extra jobs available to Americans.” After all, 525,000 American soldiers have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003, and 1,722 US soldiers have been killed since Iraq (so those jobs should be permanently released to domestic Americans, right?). I guess not, because the Labor Department job loss estimates are still over 300,000. Accountability, anyone?

gMoney

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

The recent speculation about Google’s making a competitor service to PayPal prompted CEO Eric Schmidt to make a public statement about the issue. He said Google does not intend to offer a “person-to-person stored-value payments system” like PayPal’s, but he did not give details of how the Google system would differ. Well, I’ll tell you how it’ll differ. It’s going to be bigger than that. It’s going to be business-to-business, business-to-person, person-to-business, and person-to-person all-in-one system that will transfer (after a small fee) money instantly. Two reasons for this system: (1) PayPal faced a lot of legal issues with their system of holding the money briefly before allowing you to transfer the funds to your bank account. Google’s not going to face that headache. Besides, this way everyone (including Google) gets their money more quickly, so there isn’t much room for arguement. (2) This will work very will with the Google Login system when they get gLogin on other websites (a different one of my guesses). People worry about storing their credit card and banking information with multiple sites. With gMoney and gLogin, it’s just one website that has your information stored. Google brandname is trusted (so far), so this could definitely work.

Subject: Michael Jackson Jury Reaches a Verdict

Supposed to be read at 3:30 for anyone who cares… Personally, I’m going to be glad it’s over so we can stop hearing about it.

Most…ironic email…ever.

I’ve got a suggestion for you…

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

I’ve been having issues with a part that I bought for my computer. It’s involved phone calls to Emachines, Kingston, and Outpost. In the most recent, in trying to get a refund, they actually suggested that I should try Ebay-ing it. Sometimes, I just want to hit my head on my desk.
